February 2008

A very happy new year to you all.   I hope that you enjoyed Christmas, wherever you were and whatever you did.   Spring is only a few months away, so until then keep warm and enjoy life.   Thank you to everyone of you who have posted back their subscriptions to me.  For those who haven’t yet done so and do wish to re-join, please don’t forget to return your form by the end of this month.  Those who have sent your subscription by cheque, will not have it banked until we are able to open the bank account.  We cannot do this until our Association is declared in Les Journaux Officiels.  This is being checked every day and …..

Newsletters

LES AMIS SOLITAIRES

For those who have not already been given an updated members’ names, phone numbers and email list, I am attaching it with this newsletter.  This will be updated every month, if necessary, and a completely new list will be sent out in August.  As always at this time of the year, the membership goes down due to a number of factors, but I am delighted to say that we have re-gained 41 members and I am certain the membership will go up again very shortly.  We will be doing a good deal of advertising both in local papers, magazines and shops which will increase the numbers, although I don’t think we want to get ...

We put the clocks back at the end of this month so Spring is definitely on its way – although February was lovely and nearly as hot as last summer!  Let’s hope this summer is better.I moved into Chez Chagnaud, Les Adjots mid February and would like to thank everyone who helped me.  I am very grateful to you all and am now happily in my new home – don’t forget visitors are more than welcome.I also have acquired an addition to my family – a lovely dog called Theo – I got him from SPA in Poitiers, which is one of the Societies for the protection of Animals in this area.  The reason for mentioning this is because they are always looking for people to adopt the rescued dogs and cats .so if you are ..

March 2008

I hope that you all enjoyed the Easter break, the weather being better than predicted.  We are now officially into Spring with Summer just around the corner – the clocks have gone forward and evenings are longer and Winter is behind us.  Although it could be a little warmer!   Some good news that I have to tell you is that the website is now up and running.  Gwen and her daughter Sam, have worked so hard on this for us over the past few months and the hard work was well worth it as it is very professional and will be of great use....

LAS

First of all thank you to all of you who took the trouble to reply to my email regarding email addresses on the website.

It is very important to get all your views because then the correct procedure will be carried out.  If you missed it – the question was “would you mind your email address being put on the website”?  The general opinion was split – so we have decided not to put on the email addresses, just the LAS one which is lesamissolitaires@gmail.com

I understand that the first walk of the year was cancelled, not only because of the rain, but because of the lack of support from members.   We are having another one this month and it would be so good to see a lot of you taking part.  These walks are not very difficult ...

May 2008

Not much has happened this month and this newsletter is slightly earlier than normal!   The walks were cancelled due to lack of interest, which is a shame really.  Maybe we can think of an easy walk with a picnic for later on in the

year – any suggestions?  I forgot to mention in my last newsletter the May lunch at Le Chaval Blanc/Salamander Bar, Lizant..  The weather, for once, was warm and sunny and we all sat outside at small tables.  The fish and chips were great as were the other menus and it was really a great afternoon with a difference.  Thank you Gwen for organising that for us.  After a very rainy day, the evening ...

August 2008

Another early newsletter you lucky people!  I hope that the dates in this one are correct – unlike a few in last month’s, for which I apologise.  I also apologise for being late for the meal in Cognac, I obviously didn’t read my newsletter properly!   The day was sunny, the meal was great and also the boat trip.    Jane writes “We all had a lovely day.  There were 14 of us for lunch, eating at the same restaurant as last year and still just as good.   And for the Boat Trip we were 10, lucky again with the weather, it was very hot! Everyone enjoyed the beautiful ...

July 2008

This newsletter will be quite short because, like many of you, I have visitors through the summer holiday and am enjoying the warm summer weather with them.  Just a quick reminder of our outings in July, starting with the lunch at Benest.  Thank you John for organising it and although not many members were able to make it,  those of use who did enjoyed the restaurant and the company.  The next event, apart from the dinner circle and club night, was my housewarming party.  Quite a few of you were able to come to that and I hope that you enjoyed it as much as I did.  We were lucky with the weather – it didn’t rain, good fun ...

First of all I would like to thank Mary Perkins for organising the August lunch at such short notice – there were very few of us there, but that mattered little as the food and the chat was good.  Gloria could not come at the last minute as she was not feeling well enough – I hope you are now feeling better Gloria.  I know you have an operation coming up in September and would like to wish you all the best for it from us all.  Also Vic, you are going to have your hip done this coming month – so all the very best to you as well.  Also I understand that Geoff is in and out of hospital – if anybody knows of anyone else, please let me know – we are thinking of you all.  We have had a better summer than last year weatherwise and hopefully there will be some more good ...

September 2008

September turned out to be quite a nice month but very cold in the mornings and evenings – sitting outside was not too warm for our end of summer dinners – but I suppose the whole of the summer was a little like that – next year will be better I am sure!

We had to change the venue of the September club lunch to Bisto Paul Bouillon which is in the area of the new shops in Ruffec, around Styleco etc.   There were 10 of us and I must say we all enjoyed our meal.  The service was ….

Thank you for organising the October lunch in Parthenay, Nigel – we knew the restaurant as a few of us went last year and like last year, the food was fantastic.  After lunch we went on a walk - this was a different one to last year and a little shorter but just as enjoyable and we were very lucky with the weather again.  It is a very enjoyable day out and the drive is…...
