LES AMIS SOLITAIRESLAS

About Us

HOW WE BEGAN

Les Amis Solitaires started with 5 people in April 2004 and is now, 4 years later, an association with 50 members.  The idea was conceived by Jenny Higgins, now president, who, at that time, had lived in France for 2 years and had only met couples in her area.  She thought that there had to be a few more people in the same situation as herself, ie, living on their own, who would like to meet for coffee, lunches etc.   This idea was obviously a good one, because the following year there were so many more people wanting to join, what was by that time, a club.

Towards the end of 2006 the group was getting too large for one person to run efficiently, so a committee was formed to help organise different events and to generally help in the running of the club.  A subscription was also started of 12 euros a year – this has gone up to 15 euros a year for those with an email address and 22 euros for those without.

Each successive year has seen more and more activities in the calendar, so there really is something for everyone.  The events vary from the club lunch on the 1st Saturday of the month, a monthly dinner circle, walks, parties and BBQs, visits to various places and book/craft afternoons etc.  We are always looking for different things to do and we are even thinking miles ahead for Christmas!

Les Amis Solitaires, meaning solitary friends, is a social club open to all people who are single at the time of joining.  The club provides a wonderful opportunity to meet people and to make new friends generally – not necessarily in your area either, as some people drive quite a distance to join in the events.  Some of the members live in England, wanting to keep in touch with friends they have met when visiting France.

If you are already living in France or are thinking about living in France, you are single for whatever reason and feel you would like to do more in your leisure time, do please get in touch. Also if you are French, speak a little English and would like to make some English friends please join us.  We look forward to hearing from you.
